2011 Spark Award Call for Proposals
The Firefly Spark Award is a partnership program between the Alzheimer Society of Ontario (ASO) and the Firefly Foundation that will be awarded through the 2012 competition of the Alzheimer Society Research Program. The partners share a common desire to tackle the serious issues of dementia and raise awareness and profile with people who may not yet be affected by this disease, especially those under the age of 35.
Firefly and ASO would like to grant one post-doctoral award valued at $50,000/year, for two years. The award will be granted to one (1) successful applicant involved in innovative studies that will investigate the behavioral and lifestyle practices that reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease and related diseases, including mild cognitive impairment, or slow their progression.
The award aims to attract young researchers or researchers in their early career, when funding can be most challenging. The recipient will undertake an exciting project that has enough pilot information and is novel and imaginative enough to justify further investigation by a young researcher. The studies will be supervised by a senior researcher whose funding will support the proposed investigations. The project should be carried out in Ontario at one of the recognized dementia research centres.
Review Criteria & Process:
Applicants will apply to, and be processed and ranked through, the Alzheimer Society Research Program. Applications that are ranked at and above the fundable level will be reviewed by the Alzheimer Society of Ontario Research Advisory Council and the Firefly Foundation for final selection.
Acknowledgments:
Any communication of research must acknowledge the ASRP, ASO and the Firefly Foundation as sources of support. Copies of the communications should be sent to ASC as soon as they become available. The awardee may be invited to present his/her findings at an event sponsored by the Firefly Foundation.
